Platte River Equity, a private equity firm focused on driving growth in niche middle market industrial companies, acquired Profile Products, a manufacturer of hydraulic mulch and soil conditioners.

The new owners plan to continue building Profile Products’ business, in collaboration with the current company leadership, through both organic growth and strategic add-on acquisitions, the company said. Profile Products will continue to operate with the same management team, 200-plus-employee workforce and existing locations in Buffalo Grove, Ill.; Conover, N.C.; Blue Mountain, Miss.; and Limestone, Tenn.

“We have worked hard with our distributor partners to become market leaders in each of our target markets, and we were looking for a partner to help us fuel the next chapter in our growth,” said John Schoch, president and CEO of Profile Products. “Platte River has the financial resources and experience to help us execute new expansion strategies. In addition, Platte River’s principals are major investors in the firm’s investment funds, so they are motivated to increase the value of their portfolio companies. This puts us in the strongest possible position to keep the company on a continuous growth path.”

In the past year, the company has introduced products, such as ProGanics Biotic Soil Media, a patent-pending topsoil alternative designed to help establish sustainable vegetation; Turface Elite, an enhancement of its Turface Athletics sports condition and erosion control product sports fields; and HydroFiber, a peat replacement product for the horticulture market.

Platte River Equity is based in Denver, and Profile Products is based in Buffalo Grove. The financial details of the deal, which closed May 21, were not disclosed.
