The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) named Montville, Penn.-based dealer R.S. Hollinger & Son and Louisiana-based landscape contractor Rotolo Consultants Inc. (RCI) as the recipients of its second annual Propane Leadership Award Oct. 18 at GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Ky.

“We’re excited to announce RCI and R.S. Hollinger & Son as the recipients of this year’s Propane Leadership Award,” said Jeremy Wishart, deputy director of business development at PERC. “Both businesses have helped bring awareness of propane mowers into their communities and share the benefits of the clean fuel with their customers. They did the research on propane and understood the positive impact it could have on their business, both financially and environmentally.”

Brandt Martin of RCI and R.S. Hollinger & Son’s Lynn Hollinger received personalized Louisville Slugger baseball bats to commemorate the award.

RCI began using propane commercial mowers in 2011 and changed one-third of its fleet to propane within a year, according to PERC. Now, the company uses nearly 100 propane mowers and close to 100 propane autogas-powered trucks to meet its needs. Operations, maintenance and dependability make propane mowers a vital part of the RCI operation, Martin said.

R.S. Hollinger instead found competitive success on the sales floor, according to PERC. Hollinger said he sees R.S. Hollinger as an early adopter in a market segment he believes will grow as demand increases for reduced emissions services.
