The National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) is now accepting entries for its 2018 Awards of Excellence program.

The early bird deadline is July 1, and the regular deadline is Aug. 6; entry fees are $399 and $499 per each submission, respectively.

Available to NALP members only, the Awards of Excellence recognizes exceptional maintenance, design/build or contracting projects every year, according to NALP. Projects can range in size and scope from less than $25,000 to more than $1 million.

Design/build entries must submit a minimum of 12 photos and a maximum of 17, and the design layout should be the last photo. If company information is listed on the design, the entry may be disqualified.

Looking to improve your chances of winning awards for your landscape work? Try these tips:

  • Make sure pictures are free of visual distractions (toys, hoses, litter, trash receptacles, etc.).
  • If stone surfaces are wetted for the photo shoot, be sure they are evenly wet.
  • Do not submit close-ups of flowers, leaves, butterflies, etc. This type of photo would be a wasted shot.
  • Use props (e.g., dishes, candles and bowls of fruit) when showing outdoor furniture to make it look inviting.
  • Take before-and-after shots from the same vantage point.
