Irrigation Association names July Smart Irrigation Month

|

irrigation_association_150The Irrigation Association (IA) has once again named July Smart Irrigation Month. First launched in 2005, the Smart Irrigation Month initiative was designed to increase public awareness about the value of water-use efficiency.

“The Irrigation Association is doing more this year to promote efficient irrigation during Smart Irrigation Month than ever before,” said IA’s CEO Deborah Hamlin. “Through efforts ranging from advocacy, public affairs, social media and education, we are maximizing our outreach to promote the benefits of water-use efficiency throughout the month of July.”

During Smart Irrigation Month, IA and its members educate homeowners, businesses, growers and other end-users about water-saving technologies and practices to save money and water. Additionally, IA is launching a media campaign to educate end users about efficient outdoor water use through television segments and local newspapers.

The IA also uses Smart Irrigation Month to engage policymakers by reinforcing the role efficient irrigation plays in providing real solutions to today’s water challenges. IA members are working with governors to get state proclamations recognizing July as Smart Irrigation Month, as well as working with Congress to promote legislation that incorporates incentives and funding for water-use efficiency, IA said.

“Water continues to be at the forefront of public conversation and public policy,” said Hamlin. “By sharing a unified message about available irrigation technologies and practices, we can protect our nation’s water resources while helping homeowners save money and growers increase productivity.”
