ICE badgeMore than 100 workers were arrested June 5 when about 200 federal officers raided two Corso’s Flower & Garden Center locations in Sandusky and Castalia, Ohio, The Associated Press reports. It was one of the largest workplace immigration raids in recent years.

Corso’s is a family-owned company founded in 1941 with a greenhouse, flower shop, garden center, landscape department and wholesale perennial plant division, according to its website.

U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) told AP it expects criminal charges, including identity theft and tax evasion. Criminal charges have not been filed against the company, but it’s under investigation.

AP reports that immigration authorities have increased audits of companies to verify their employees are authorized to work in the country. There were 2,282 employer audits opened between Oct. 1 and May 4, nearly a 60 percent jump from the 1,360 audits opened between October 2016 and September 2017.
