CSP, a customs plastics extruder of polyolefin materials, debuted PolyWeed Shield, a high-density polyethylene weed barrier.

“The journey in developing the PolyWeed shield has been very organic,” said Steve Fleming, vice president of CSP. “We’ve been producing our HDPE StaCon for years, and we started to see demand for our product in the growing industry, being utilized as a weed barrier. We researched the industry and developed a product that fits the needs of our customers.”

An alternative to fabric weed protectors, Polyweed Shield is designed to suppress weeds and can also be used ahead of the growing season to warm the soil, killing unwanted plants and insects, CSP said.

It is made from StaCon, CSP’s polyethylene material, out of 95 percent recycled material. The product can be recycled in most curbside recycling programs, according to the company.

PolyWeed shield comes in a standard size of 48 by 36 inches, with a perforation every 3 inches, allowing landscapers to size it to fit their specific needs.
