Companies in the News: Great Northern Equipment, Heads Up, Heaviland, TurfMutt

Great Northern Equipment (GNE) purchased the assets of Maxim Manufacturing, a Mississippi-based manufactuerer commercial landscape tillers, trimmers, sprinklers, rollers and more. GNE is based in Rogers, Minn., and has a branch office in Garland, Texas. The company has sold outdoor power equipment to dealers, rental stores and big box stores nationwide for more than 30 years.

Heads Up Landscape Contractors in New Mexico debuted a higher education scholarship program for children with a parent or legal guardian who is an active employee of the company. The program, with rolling application deadlines, will award between $250 and $500 to use for books and course fees, with higher amounts offered for horticultural-related studies. Applicants must write an essay and have at least a 2.75 GPA.

Heaviland Landscape Management, a family-owned, full-service landscape company in Vista, Calif., celebrated its 30-year anniversary with an event at Karl Strauss Brewery in Sorrento Mesa, Calif. Mayor Judy Ritter presented a proclamation from the City of Vista honoring Tom Heaviland, president of the company.

TurfMutt is now accepting entries for its annual Be a Backyard Superhero essay contest, where students compete for a $5,000 grant to improve the two winning schools’ green spaces. All entries must be submitted by April 6.
