Companies in the News: Gachina honored as top woman-owned business; Douglas Dynamics makes Forbes list; more from Case, Akehurst, Wright

Gachina Landscape Managementowned by H. Jaclyn Ishimaru-Gachina, ranked No. 19 on the list of top 100 Bay Area Women-Owned Business and No. 7 on the list of the Bay Area’s top 25 minority-owned companies by the San Francisco Business Times. The 370-employee company, based in Menlo Park, Calif., earned a reported $29.5 million in 2015 revenue performing landscape maintenance, enhancements and water conservation.

Douglas Dynamicsmanufacturer of vehicle attachments and equipment under brands such as SnowEx, Fisher and Western—ranked No. 5 on Fortune Magazine‘s list of 100 fastest growing companies. This is the company’s first year on the list, which recognizes public companies with the best three-year growth rates, revenue and profit.

Case Construction Equipment hosted its second “Labor of Love Music Festival” on Labor Day. The event raised $10,000 for Team Rubicon and was headlined by country music artist Chris Young.

Akehurst Landscape Service, located in Joppa, Md., celebrated its 140th anniversary in September with a waterfront open house in Belcamp, Md. The family-owned company was started in 1876 by Charles Akehurst, an English immigrant who moved to the Baltimore area when he was 10. Six generations later, the company is providing landscape management, interior plantscaping, snow and ice removal, and more to a residential and commercial clientele in Central Maryland.

Wright Manufacturing named Smith Distributing Co. 2016 Distributor of the Year. Established in 1983, Smith distributes Wright commercial mowers to independent landscape equipment dealers in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. Hal White, Wright’s vice president of sales, presented the award to Smith Distributing Co. President Glenn Smith and General Manager Kandis Caldwell. Wright is Smith’s exclusive mower line, and this is the second time the Oklahoma City firm is Distributor of the Year since taking on the line in 2003.
