Jim Umpleby, CEO of Caterpillar, introduces the new UTVs at a media event in November.

Caterpillar introduced its Cat utility vehiclesthe gasoline-powered CUV82 and diesel-powered CUV102D.

The new Cat UTVs can efficiently complete hauling tasks and quickly maneuver over rugged terrain reaching 45 mph, depending on model, said the company.

The CUV82 and CUV102D feature a rugged steel cargo bed and offer a 1,000-lb. total rear cargo capacity and a 2,000-lb. towing capacity for outstanding performance in a variety of applications.

The UTVs boast a four-wheel independent suspension system, a long swing-arm suspension, custom-tuned springs and shocks and ample ground clearance. They also feature smooth acceleration, clear sightlines, engine breaking capability, an intuitive column shifter and a continuously variable transmission.

The CUV82 is powered by a 0.8L three-cylinder gasoline engine delivering 50 hp, while the CUV102D is powered by a 1.0L three-cylinder diesel engine delivering 25 hp. The choice of two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive or four-wheel drive/lock modes permits the driver to match vehicle drive to ground conditions.

Designed to minimize noise and vibration, the machines comfortably seat two riders side by side. Additional comfort features include a behind-the-seat storage and document holder, an adjustable driver’s seat and steering wheel and a removable and stowable passenger seat.

The machines also boast electric power steering, and the instrument gauge offers easy viewing of critical operating information, such as ground speed, engine speed, operating hours, odometer, battery voltage, engine temperature and fuel level.

Easy access service points simplify vehicle maintenance, while on-board advanced diagnostics reduce troubleshooting time. Both are backed by service and support from participating Cat UTV dealers.

The UTV models will be available throughout most of the U.S. and Canada, excluding California and Quebec.
