Bobcat Co. released its first Tier 4-compliant 700 frame-size loader. The S740 is powered by an engine that is less than 75 hp and doesn’t require a diesel particulate filter (DPF), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) or diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).

Bobcat S740 skid-steer loaders use a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) to meet Tier 4 emission standards, without the need for a DPF. The DOC is a catalyst that reacts with engine exhaust upon contact and transforms combustion byproducts into substances like water and carbon dioxide, according to the company.

The Tier 4-compliant Bobcat non-DPF solution was achieved by designing an ultra-low particulate combustion (ULPC) engine. The ULPC is accomplished through an engine combustion chamber designed to reduce the amounts of particulate matter created during combustion, Bobcat says. Therefore, Tier 4 emissions compliance can be achieved without using a DPF.

The new S740 has a vertical-lift-path machine, a design putting the operator closer to the attachment for greater visibility and a pressurized cab.

Operators also have the choice between standard foot pedal hydraulic controls, the advanced control system or the selectable joystick controls.
